Will the sight of those Montreal Canadiens’ uniforms be enough for the Boston Bruins to up their intensity from their sleepwalk Tuesday in Ottawa?

Possibly. But in the grand scheme of things, the Bruins only need to focus a little more than they did against the Sens and then see if their intensity level is enough to squeak out a win. I’m not advocating coasting to the finish line and then trying to flip the switch for Game 1 of the playoffs, but I think as long as the Bruins have players of the ilk of Shawn Thornton, Milan Lucic and Stephane Yelle, there’s really no such thing as coasting.

The Bruins owe it to all the other playoff teams to put up somewhat of a fight against a team in the race. But not at their own expense, so if that means calling up a few Providence (AHL) guys or juggling playoff units to grab some rest, the Bruins should go for it.

Season series: The Bruins are 4-0-1 vs. the Canadiens this season, the first time they’ve won the regular-season series from the Habs since 2003-04.

What they’re writing: General manager/head coach Bob Gainey is looking for reinforcements for the Habs’ back line in light of the injuries to Mathieu Schneider and Andrei Markov.

Montreal player to watch: When the season started, the Habs’ biggest addition was winger Alex Tanguay. An injury-plagued season has kept Tanguay from making the biggest splash possible, but he’s been on fire of late. In 14 games since his return, Tanguay has amassed 15 points (6 goals) in 14 games. The Bruins haven’t face Tanguay at his best, as in three games played against the Black and Gold he has just one assist.
