Pittsburgh Penguins & ex-Penguins 2009 player stats.
Going over the final player stats from the 2009 Penguins and the Penguins that have been traded over the last 2 years, a few things stick out. Probably the biggest for me is Mark Recchi and Marian Hossa. Marian Hossa was offered a huge contract by Ray Shero which he turned down and Mark Recchi was put on waivers, they finished only 10 points apart in the total season scoring race. I guess 10 points separate big contracts and being sent down to the minors.
Erik Christenen finished with the exact same amount of points as the guy he was traded for, Pascal Dupuis. While I’m disapointed in Dupuis’ numbers I would still take him in a heartbeat over Christensen. Matt Cooke had 10 more points than the guy he supposedly replaced, Ruutu. He may not be as good of an agitator, but he scores more.

Hossa was a huge loss for them … I mean they gave up so much and the whole thing fell apart in the off-season
But great trade for Kunitz … should be a big help
Veteran Guerin is also a stellar pick up for the playoffs … nothing like good old fashion leadership.
they gave up too much for kunitz
