Northeast Division: Sens cap weekend on right note.

5 April 2009 No Comments

SenatorsThe Ottawa Senators, as the Boston Bruins found out in a hard-fought game last Thursday, are not just rolling over for playoff-bound opponents in the aftermath of their mathematical elimination from contention.

Last night they continued to be a thorn in the sides of clubs higher in the standings than they are, as they down Philadelphia, 4-3 in a shootout with center Mike Fisher burying the game-winner. Ken Warren of the Ottawa Citizen has the rundown.

The Sens will host the Boston Bruins Tuesday night with thoughts of keeping the Bruins from the Presidents’ Trophy on their minds.

Opinion: What a difference a year makes. Last year at this time, the Bruins’ last trip to Ottawa required them to win in order to make the playoffs. Now they’re playing for the Presidents’ Trophy and Ottawa is playing out the string. But it’ll be key for the Bruins not to take the Sens lightly because Ottawa will be looking to make a physical statement to a team that’s beaten them five times already.
