Congrats to the Blues!
As the waning moments died down in St. Louis tonight, it sank in that my beloved Preds were officially done. But I will say… I’m happy for the Blues. They worked their asses off in the last 3 months to get to this point. If Nashville is going to get knocked out by someone, it might as well be to a team that earned it (even though its a division rival). St. Louis, you earned it… and to that, I congratulate you.
On January 19, the Blues played a matinee game in Boston on MLK Day. They entered the game with a record of 17-23-4, sitting dead last in the West. St. Louis was down 4-2 with less than 2 minutes to go… but ended up tying the game with less than 1 second left courtesy of David Backes. They won the game in a shootout and I remember after watching that game, thinking to myself ‘That’s a win that can change a season around’. Well, ever since Chris Mason has started EVERY game for the Blues, and they have chipped away to clinch a playoff spot.
I guarantee you that Andy Murray & company do not care what seed they’ll be come next week… they probably feel like they can beat anyone at this point. As well they should because they’ve been the best team in the NHL over the last 30 games. San Jose and Detroit absolutely do not want to play this team right now. Oh by the way, if Murray doesn’t win the Jack Adams, something is wrong with that voting committee. The Blues were 15th in the West on Feb. 18… ‘nuff said.
The Caps & Blues have had similar ‘Cinderella’ runs to the playoffs the last 2 seasons, and that should show everyone else to always fight to the end… because you never know what will happen!
