Collapse possible?
Is it at all possible that the Penguins have given everything they have over the past 6 weeks and now have little left in the tank to sprint to the finish line?
I am not sure you can count the Devils game as a measuring stick as to where the pens stand right now, since I haven’t seen a worse performance since the Pirates season ended. So after that game the penguins have played 2 playoff caliber teams in the hunt for a spot. The Carolina game was fast and ….wait for it….. furious but in the end the ‘guins could not figure out Cam Ward enough to pull off the comeback. Then 19 hours later they had to travel to Florida and take on a Panthers team who needed a win desperately to tie the Rangers for 8th place. They came out and looked to have the panthers overwhelmed, but then the wheels fell off and could not pull off this comeback either.
So are the penguins running out of Bio-Diesel in the last week of the regular season, or are the last two games just a matter of horrible scheduling? They can prove otherwise Wednesday by beating a depleted Tampa team and clinching a spot and ending this debate.
