Boston Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli confirmed that he has asked the league to look at what transpired between Montreal defenseman Mike Komisarek and Bruins blueliner Matt Hunwick after the final horn of last night’s Game 1 of the teams’ Eastern Conference quarterfinal series.

Komisarek and Hunwick were trying to get at each other while a linesman held them apart. Komisarek landed a few blows — enough to open a cut above Hunwick’s right eye. The rookie required sutures after the game to close the wound. As of now there’s no YouTube video of the incident.

There’s no telling what the league would do. With his recent suspension of Philadelphia’s Daniel Carcillo, league disciplinarian Colin Campbell was obviously trying to send a message that late-game and post-game extracurricular activity would not be tolerated.

As for Maxim Lapierre’s hit on Bruins winger Phil Kessel after the speedster scored the game-clinching empty-net goal, Chiarelli said he thought that was a less-egregious action because it happened so quickly and was more a spur-of-the-moment thing.

If the league makes any comment on the matter, we’ll hear later today. And I’ll get Hunwick’s take after practice.
