What can you say about the job that Ray Shero did to make the Pens a playoff hockey team? Chris Kunitz. new daddy — what a presence on the ice! This man just loves to hit people. And he can do so much more.
Billy Guerin. I always loved Billy Guerin as a hockey player and hoped some day he would play for the Pens. He’s not quite the player he was in his prime, but he certainly fits the bill for what the Pens needed right now.

Give the Flyers credit. They came out with a new approach. They played a disciplined, hard fought game……….for about 50 minutes. When the game was on the line, the old Flyer mentality kicked in and they made some bad decisions. They took some penalties that resulted in a loss and a trip back to Philly down 2-0.
Fortunately, for though of us who support the Penguins, they made the Flyers pay for their undisciplined hockey last night. The Pens capitalized on two power plays. One to tie the game with less …

Guerin… Kunitz… Adams… three additions that were well thought-out and who would have thunk it our Flightless Birdies are winning it with experience. Not only the Stanley Cup experience these guys bring but also the experience of our core members of the team. It’s hard to believe but Staal (19), Crosby (20), Malkin (21), Kennedy (21), Letang (21), Fleury (23) are experienced and play with level-heads with top of the line skill-sets.
While the Pens during the trade deadline went with savvy and CUP experience, the Flyers pressed by salary cap concerns went with…

Dan Bylsma has always said that the Penguins have two of the worlds best players and that they need to be the ones dictating the pace of the game not the other team. He took that to a whole new level on Wednesday when he scratched the Penguins healthy enforcer Eric Godard. Scratching your enforcer against the Flyers is unheard of, the papers will be writing that Bylsma is one taco short of a combo platter, or will they? It turned out to be pure Genius.
The Philadelphia papers are saying …

There is nothing better than watching the Flyers get beat and lower themselves to the thugs that they are. They took so many bad penalties that even their captain questioned their tactics.
I would like to ask Scott Hartnell a couple of questions. How does it feel to sneak up behind a player, punch him in the back of the head, and then run away? And do you really think that this will help you win the game?
There are 5 seconds left in the game. Face-off at center ice. 3 Flyers …

The NHL is holding a hearing with Daniel Carcillo at 3pm this afternoon about the cheap shot he took on the face-off against Max Talbot. The NHL needs to seriously look into some rule changes for the end of both playoff games and regular season games.
Last night with 14 seconds left in the game, the Flyers were killing a 5 on 3 penalty and Ryan Parent slashed then cross check face planted Jordan Staal into the boards. What did he get for it? A two minute penalty for cross checking which …

The Pittsburgh Penguins did, indeed, outclass the Philadelphia Flyers. They outclassed them both in outcome of the game and how they played the game. This game did live up to the hype. It was played by two teams that seem to really dislike each other. There was a lot of hitting. Many of those hits were of the bone-jarring variety. There was a good bit of action, big saves, bad turnovers, shots off posts and lots of penalties.
The Pens apparently picked up where they left off in the conference finals …

Starting tonight there are 16 men who probably have a little more of the focus, a little more of the spotlight, on their masked faces. Those guys are the goaltenders. Here in Boston, they’re wondering if Tim Thomas can win a playoff series. In Montreal, they’re wondering if Carey Price was overhyped of if he’s going to use this postseason to live up to the prognostications for his greatness.
Well, in Phiadelphia all eyes are on Martin Biron. He led the Flyers to the Eastern Conference finals last spring. After an …

I don’t care how long the Boston - Montreal rivalry has been going on, I don’t care that Detroit is only 209 driving miles from Columbus. The most intense knock down drag ‘em out, fan hate fan, World Series Champion vs. Super Bowl Champion, Rocky Balboa vs. Mean Joe Green playoff battle you are going to see is the Pittsburgh vs. Philadelphia one. There will be so many “Go Home Flyers”, “Crosby Sucks”, “na na na, na na na hey hey hey goodbye” and other nasty chants that the networks …

We all know that Crosby and Malkin will get their points (especially against the Flyers), and we know that Fleury will make some outstanding saves and that Gonchar will rip some slappers that will convert the power play. All these are known factors that other teams can plan for.
So, what can the Pens bring that will give them the edge? It’s the third line - currently of Jordan Staal (TradeBait), Matt Cooke and Tyler Kennedy. This line’s success will determine how far the Penguins go this year.
That’s no bad thing …
