Five questions heading into Game 4.

Here are five questions, and my answers, concerning the Boston Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens as they head into tomorrow night’s Game 4 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series at Bell Centre.
1. Does Montreal have a better game than the one it displayed in Game 3?
The short answer: no. The longer answer (of course) is that the Habs’ best effort of the series produced the same result as the first two games — a defeat. Now that they’re down 0-3, it’s unlikely they’ll be able to muster enough energy for …

Punishment may be looming for Lucic.

The joy of the Boston Bruins’ 5-1 win over Montreal in Game 2 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series tonight at TD Banknorth Garden was tempered a bit by a late-game hit Milan Lucic made on Canadiens agitator Maxim Lapierre with 4:32 left in the game.
Lapierre skated at Lucic in front of the Montreal goal after Lucic and Habs defenseman Mathieu Schneider exchanged pleasantries. You can see the hit in the clip below, but Lucic seemed to catch Lapierre in the head with either his glove or his stick. Either …

Five questions heading into Game 2.

Here are five quick five that remain to be answered as we head toward tomorrow night’s Game 2 of the Eastern Conference semifinal series between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens at TD Banknorth Garden.
1. Who’s the Bruins’ sixth defenseman?
Did you watch Steve Montador play. He was pretty bad. It doesn’t make much sense to play him over Shane Hnidy, who really had a solid season from start to finish. And Hnidy has nearly two years of playing experience alongside Mark Stuart, whose game suffered a little playing next to …

Should Cammalleri be suspended?

A big debate topic from last night’s action is Mike Cammalleri’s blatant punch to Martin Havlat after a face-off. Flyers’ goon Daniel Carcillo was just suspended for a similar act on Pittsburgh’s Max Talbot. Here’s the difference:

1. It was Carcillo.
2. He was on the ice for a penalty kill with 6 seconds left, taking the face-off (the last position he’d play is center!).
3. The NHL has made a point for no ‘message-sending’ when a score is decided.
4. Cammalleri and Havlat were going at it right before the face-off.
5. It was …

Bruins vs Habs: The indepth and insanely great series preview!

With a 24-7 lifetime advantage of playoff series wins, the Habs take on the Bruins for the 32nd time in the NHL playoffs. These two teams have had many historic battles in the postseason, especially in recent years. It wasn’t long ago when the #1 Bruins in 2002, featuring the likes of Sergei Samsonov (when he was good), Joe Thornton, Bill Guerin, Brian Rolston and Glen Murray, faced off against the #8 seeded Montreal Canadiens, whose leading scorer Yanic Perreault had 56 points, and whose goalie, a pre-propecia Jose Theodore, …

I LIVE FOR THIS!!

April 15th is finally here! If you ask die-hard NFL fans, they’ll say the NFL Playoffs cannot be matched. If you ask any big baseball fan, they’ll say the same about October. If you ask NBA fans, they’ll say – well, let’s not kid ourselves here!
We hockey fans have something that blows that stuff away: the Stanley Cup Playoffs. From mid-April through mid-June, not one sport can match the excitement and intensity of the Stanley Cup Playoffs over such a long period… not one! Here are some reasons why … Read Why!

Fearless Playoff Predictions !!!

EASTERN CONFERENCE SEMIFINALS
1) Bruins vs. 6) Hurricanes
If the ‘Canes can get past the Devils, it means Cam Ward would be playing lights out at this point. Boston would be coming off a rough series against the hated Habs. This series would be awesome! Carolina really can make it to the conference final… they’re that good. Meanwhile, the B’s have the Cup on their minds, with a defense that is in a class of its own. In the end, I think the Bruins would prevail in a very entertaining matchup.
Prediction: Bruins …

Keys to Habs beating the Bruins.

Fresh off my hopeful prediction of a 7-game triumph over the Bruins, here are my brief thoughts on what I believe to be the keys to success for the Habs:

1- Goaltending: Carey Price has to be consistently very good, if not brilliant. A perfect example was the season finale in Pittsburgh. Price stopped 38 of 41 shots for a terrific .927 save percentage. Good enough, right? Well not if he gives up goals like he did to Malkin and Letang. Fat rebounds and getting beat cleanly on …

A skate down memory lane: Bruins-Canadiens ‘08-09.

Here’s a brief recap of the six-game season series between the Boston Bruins and the Montreal Canadiens this season to get you pumped for the first round of the playoffs. The Bruins won the season series 5-0-1.
Wednesday, Oct. 15 at Bell Centre
Montreal 4, Bruins 3 (shootout)
In a sign of how resilient the Bruins would become this season, Boston rallies from 3-0 down after the first period to force a shootout. Marc Savard’s extra-attacker goal with 48 seconds left ties it. Carey Price outduels Tim Thomas in the shootout.
Thursday, Nov. 13 …

Video: The drive for 25.

Last year Annakin Slayd came out with a song called 25 (Feels like ‘93). Well folks now there’s a video for all you Habs fans to enjoy and get pumped for this year’s edition of the NHL Playoffs. On the other hand, it could be seen as one of the cheesiest videos ever made. Make the call.

Brad May reaches 1,000-game milestone.

Former Ducks forward Brad May celebrated his 1,000th game in the NHL on Wednesday, and was honored in a pregame ceremony by his current team, the Toronto Maple Leafs.
May began the season with the Ducks but was traded to Toronto so that he could reach the milestone. May had not been getting a lot of playing time and it was doubtful that he would have reached 1,000 games this season had he remained in Anaheim.
May spent most of his career with the Buffalo Sabres (425 games) but also had stops …
