Bandwagon season in Montreal.

16 April 2009 2 Comments

car-flagWarning, to all current Habs Fans and residents of Montreal, please do not be concerned or alarmed. At this time in Montreal, you will see an extreme amount of Habs flags on every car window, please remain calm.  Also do not be distressed and frightened when you hear the constant chants of “Ole,ole, ole and Go Habs Go,” at any random period of time . It will all be ok, even with the frequent “let’s go Canadiens” in everyone’s msn and Facebook name. There is no pandemonium going on in the city and there is truly nothing to be worried about, it is simply just the Bandwagoners of Montreal arriving for playoff time.

Now, what is a “Montreal bandwagoner? Well, it is just the only thing in this world I hate more than the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Boston Bruins, and Mikhail Grabovski. A “Montreal bandwagoner” would be somebody who cheers for the Habs when they’re doing well, however puts the Habs down when they’re not playing like a top team. Before the 2007-2008 season started, most of the Montreal population agreed with the hockey analysts when they said the Habs would not even make the playoffs. Even though all of my friends called me crazy I believed in the Habs, I believed that they would make the playoffs. Going in to the winter break the Habs were playing very well, and were at the top of their conference, however, these bandwagoners said the same thing as always “the Habs will fall apart like they do every winter time.” Now this bothered me, the Habs were doing great, yet they still got no love.

When time came around and the Habs won the conference and were the first seed heading in to the playoffs, everything started to change. People started to bust out the car flags, at random times, people on the streets would start singing “ole, ole, ole, ” as well as numerous chants of “go Habs go, go Habs go” and how could you forget about the “Let’s Go Canadiens” in everyone’s msn and Facebook name. Now you may wonder why I would be upset with residents of Montreal for cheering for their own team. Well the reason is where were these so called Habs fans during the regular season? Where were they when the Habs needed their support and some extra inspiration? And where were they when the 21,273 fans in the Bell Centre were not cheering loud enough? These bandwagoners were nowhere to be found! They don’t really care about the Habs; they just want to fit in with everyone else in Montreal who is cheering for them.

If the Habs got as much support during the regular season as they do in the playoffs maybe they could have done a better job, and maybe could had a higher playoff seed. The Canadiens would have been more enthused to play hockey knowing that everyone in the city was behind them, and knowing that everyone was cheering for them to succeed. Well, that was not the case this season; you will always have those die-heart fans who will constantly cheer for the Habs, under any circumstance, even if they’re struggling, however, the same cannot be said about the infamous bandwagoners of Montreal.

Couldn’t agree with you more … I can’t stand the bandwagon … worst part is that most ppl rioting last year were of that sort … and yes I understand we are in a recession and FLAG purchases help the economy … but damn … These ppl aren’t real fans.
